About Bare Necessities-Houston’s Best Spa
Bare Necessities knows that there is something vulnerable and personal about waxing, facials, tanning, and other spa treatments, so we get to know our clients and make the experience as comfortable as we can. That’s it-that’s our secret! Our extraordinary staff has the professional skills necessary to make both men and women vacation-ready, swimsuit-ready, and date-ready. We do it all with a reassuring smile and a hand to hold, if necessary, because above all, we want you to be thrilled with the way you look and feel when you say goodbye. We make sure that everyone who walks through our doors gets exactly what he or she needs to feel their best. That’s why Bare Necessities was named Houston’s Best Spa two years in a row by Houston Press, and it’s why we’ve earned a perfect five-star rating on Yelp!
Our award-winning, client-focused customer service is overseen by our founder, Christina Hartmann Jenkins. Christina has been in the skin care industry since 2004 and studied esthetics at the International School of Cosmetology and Esthetics. Upon graduation, she worked in many different service positions in some of Houston’s top spas, and even worked for a time at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Napa Valley, California. Christina’s passion for esthetics and the utmost employee and customer care brought her back to Houston to open her own spa, where customer and employee gratification are paramount. With encouragement from her friends and family, Christina opened Bare Necessities in 2011.
If you’re ready to give Houston’s best spa a try, book an appointment with us today. Our experienced staff will recommend the spa treatments that will work best with your hair and skin types. We can’t wait to get to know you!

Frequently asked questions
why remove hair with wax?
Because waxing will make your skin feel soft and it lasts much longer than any other temporary method. People also wax because they feel it is more hygienic and that their hair grows back finer and sparser over time.
does waxing hurt?
Yes, but the pain goes away in seconds and every person’s pain tolerance is different. It does get much easier after the first time. If you are extra sensitive or about to get your period please consider taking ibuprofen 45 minutes to an hour prior to your appointment.
what steps are taken to ensure proper hygiene?
At Bare Necessities, all of our equipment is sterilized by a hospital grade EPA and a barabicide. To ensure the highest standards of hygiene, our waxing sticks are dipped into sterile wax, applied to the client once, and then discarded. We also use disposable tweezers for each individual client.
are the bare necessities employees licensed or specially trained in waxing hair removal?
The state of Texas requires a license to wax. All of our skin care specialists are licensed in the State of Texas to help ensure that our clients experience the highest level of service possible.
how long should the hair be?
At least 1/4 inch or 2-4 weeks of growth, whichever is longer. The longer your hair is, the better results you will get and the longer it will last.
how long does the waxing last?
It differs with people depending on how fast their hair grows. On average, waxing will last between 3-6 weeks depending on the area waxed. Remember the more you wax, the longer it will last!
what if i am pregnant?
You can still get waxed and it is very common for moms-to-be to get a Brazilian bikini before giving birth. Please let us know if you are in your 2nd trimester or further along when making the appointment. We will schedule more time to ensure maximum comfort!
are there any restrictions on waxing?
We are a family-friendly salon, meaning you must be 18 years old to wax or have parental approval.
when should i not get waxed?
If you are taking Rx Accutane, Differin, Retin A, Antibiotics, or any medication that may cause sun sensitivity. You should also avoid waxing while using salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, Obagi products, any harsh exfoliants, or any facial peels. All these products thin out your skin and will make you more sensitive and likely to burn or peel. Please wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax, as we want to make sure the medications are out of your system. If you are not sure of how you may react from any other prescriptions you are taking, please contact your physician.
why should i get a facial?
Regardless of your age or gender, if you want your skin to look its best you have to take care of it. Regular facials (especially with an active home-care regimen) will help prevent breakouts, keep your surface cells newer and healthier, and thereby ensure that your skin looks its very best. Your esthetician can recommend the optimal frequency for your particular skin – it will vary from person to person.
when should i get a facial?
If you want to take good care of your skin, getting a professional facial once a month is ideal. Why? The skin is a living organ, and it takes about 30 days for the cells to move up from the dermis to the surface, or epidermis, where they flatten out, die, and slough off. Giving it a healthy boost every 30 days is what skin needs to look its best.
