Fall time is officially here! So say goodbye to hot sticky weather, shorts and makeup melting off of your face, and hello to cozy sweaters and colder winds. But as great as fall is, it’s also a transition time for our skin, which tends to become a lot dryer come September; that’s why it’s important that we pay extra attention to its hydration during this season. Here are some tips:
Start on the inside: You know what’s coming… drink a lot of water, yes you hear it all the time but that doesn’t make it any less helpful. The main way to keep your skin, and entire body, hydrated is drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day.
Don’t overuse hot water: When the weather gets colder we tend to make our showers a lot hotter, but hot baths and showers dry out our skin and reduce the amount of natural moisture we produce; so try to limit the amount of hot showers you take or simply stick to lukewarm water.
Exfoliate less: During the summer we’re wearing flowery dresses and short shorts, so we do a lot of exfoliating to make sure our legs (and everything else) look great; but with the cold air coming into play, exfoliating doesn’t only get rid of the dead skin cells on our body but it also strips it of its natural oils, that’s why we should limit the amount of times we exfoliate our skin during the fall time.
Moisturize: This might be the most obvious tip, but let’s face it; we tend to forget about it from time to time. During fall it’s best to switch out our lightweight lotions for a thicker, more hydrating moisturizer; and make sure to apply it right after you’ve just showered because that way you’re sealing in the moisture on your skin.
